Pantone says Greenery is a life-affirming shade.

Pantone, the global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design industries, has announced that Greenery (##15-0343) is the 2017 Pantone Color of the Year. Pantone describes the hue as “a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew. Illustrative of flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors, the fortifying attributes of Greenery signals individuals to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate.” Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, explains: “While Serenity and Rose Quartz, the Pantone Color of the Year 2016, expressed the need for harmony in a chaotic world, Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the hope we collectively yearn for amid a complex social and political landscape. Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate, revitalize and unite, Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose.” Greenery is also “a life-affirming shade,” Pantone says, “emblematic of the pursuit of personal passions and vitality.” Eiseman continues to explain, “The tangy yellow-green speaks to our desire to express, explore, experiment and reinvent, imparting a sense of buoyancy. Through its reassuring yet assertive vibrancy, Greenery offers us self-assurance and boldness to live life on our own terms, during a time when we are redefining what makes us successful and happy.” Pantone To Collaborate with Airbnb on a “Greenery Experience” In a first-of-its-kind collaboration, Pantone has partnered with Airbnb “to bring Greenery to life,” the company says, through an experience that will be available to travelers in early 2017. It’s Easy Being Green Greenery is a versatile color that is being spotted in various industries, including tech, fashion and home furnishings. Although the hue is often associated with environmentalism and nature, it can also symbolize innovation and is “at home” in the tech world due to its association with vigor and modernity, according to Pantone. The color portrays “an entrepreneurial essence” and can convey “progression and a pioneering spirit,” according to Pantone. In fashion, Greenery complements a wide range of palettes. Pantone describes it is “nature’s neutral,” and “a great harmonizer merging undertones of cool blues with vibrant yellows.” Greenery will deliver a pop of color in accessories and footwear, or act as a bold accent in a pattern. The color was featured in several recent runway collections by Gucci, Kenzo, Michael Kors, Zac Posen, and Cynthia Rowley. The slideshow above shows shades of green on the Hermes ‘Granny Green’ Clemence Birkin Bag, and on the runway during Gucci’s Spring/Summer 2017 show. In home décor and architecture, Greenery is being seen in terrariums, botanically-themed wallpaper, and as a bright pop of color on a painted wall or piece of furniture. The color gives a room “respite and breathing space,” according to Pantone, while “bringing nature indoors.” Further, the color expert says that when used in the home, the color can improve self-esteem, reduce anxiety and heighten awareness of one’s surroundings. Greenery in Beauty Products & Packaging All shades of ‘greenery’ are already prevalent in all types of cosmetics, including eye shadow, lipstick and nail polish.
